I think the trick with the OM617 dowels is that you must be very careful to clock the balancer correctly to the crank. The two dowels are not exactly 180 deg apart, so if you orient the balancer wrong, the dowels will jam and shear when you try to pull the balancer on. Also, you must be very careful to get the dowels started correctly and not cocked. If you mess up, the crankshaft can be ruined, which would be a very bad day.
