Rightly so, I actually tried to take an econ course in college and got booted from engineering (I was interested in the modeling crossover, for the record) since it did not strictly fit their curriculum. They were also total a-holes about it, but all for the better since that is basically now my livelihood. Econ isn't really necessary unless you are on an engineering management path or interested in applied statistical modeling components.
