Rotate the large nut on top of the spring to find the position with the least amount of clearance (there may not be a variation) and set the clearance. Turn the bottom nut down slightly, rotate the top nut to adjust the clearance. While holding the top nut bring the bottom nut up to lock it in place. Often when bringing the bottom nut up and tight the clearance tightens too. Setting the clearance .001 loose may help before tightening the bottom nut. Remember loose is better than tight.
