I'd say that if the wax is still damp, then you're removing it far too quickly. Attempts at removing wax before it has completely dried will only result in spreading more wax on the surface rather than removing it. I tend to let mine sit considerably longer than five minutes - if it's still damp or streaks in places, I don't touch it and let it dry longer. It should be completely dry and powdery as you buff it off.
