This is what the wire harness that the wire harness for the rear seat heaters attaches to looks like. The little ground wire on each harness attaches to a ground screw behind the instrument panel.

Here are pages from the W116 factory service manual. Maybe they will help with making a wire harness, since the wires tend to criss-cross as there is both a high and low heat setting.

There are also lightbulbs inside, which can be removed by carefully prying off the switch top and using a piece of hose.

I had a Milan Brown 1979 W116 300SD and then bought a Cypress Green 1979 W116 300SD parts car. The parts car had front and rear seat heaters from the factory. I removed them and intended to install them in my brown 300SD, but ended up selling it to try to raise money to get a decent fintail.

I listed the seat heater parts for sale and didn't get any interest except for a local person who wanted them for a W123 300CD. He bought them along with the orthopedic seat parts.

I ended up getting my current black (was originally Walnut Brown) 1980 W116 300SD, and the person who bought the seat heater parts gave the rear harness and B-pillars back to me. I ended up finding a front wire harness on this forum from a W116 6.9 that someone was parting out. Someone on W116.org was pulling parts from a 6.9 a year or two ago, and I encouraged them to remove the complete seat heater wire harness, but it didn't happen. I feel bad, because right when I was getting into Mercedes, I parted out a Euro-spec 1977 W116 450SE which had a front seat heater, but I didn't pull the wire harness and gave away the shell.

Then I installed the wire harnesseses from the green parts car in my 300SD--but instead of using the auxiliary use box, I just wired them into the #15 and #16 fuses for the power windows, since I deleted them.
