For bad gas run down you gas tank and put in known good gas see CEL come on again.

And does your ML thinks you are breaking even when your are not. There is a $20 sensor at the break peddle that goes bad all the time best way to tell is if your break light is on all the time? Another indicator is that your cruise control don't work any more.
