First off, if the engine was new from Germany, have the guy produce the receipts!!!!!

Secondly, I found a 240D blue on blue on Ebay a couple of ago and as it was in my neighborhood, I ran right over. It had 170,000 miles on the clock, one owner and had a bad auto tranny. Body pefect except for one very small dimple behind right headlight, interior perfect except for cigarette smell, gone now.

Got it for $1000.00, put a manual 240D transmission in it for about $500.00 and gave it to my daughter. Of the five 123s that we have, it's the best buy by far. I drove it again yesterday with the wife and we're both crazy about it even though our 240D has a 300D Galandewagen engine.

The long and the short of the tale is that there are some great deals out there and maybe you should be patient, especially if the guy can't produce the engine receipts.
