Any ideas what is causing the compressor to cut off but back on immediately by pressing the EC button on/off?

Thanks!

Not sure about a 99 E320. Earlier cars were supposed to cut out when the evaporator temp gets down to ~32°, but then they are supposed to cycle back on again when it climbs back up to just below 40°. And this is to be tested at low blower speeds.
