Model years in the USA didn't make sense for MB in the late 60s and early 70s. If it arrived at the dealer in 1969 it could be sold as a 1969 or 1970 for example, depending on when it arrived, not when it was built. A "VIN" (chassis number) given to the classic center would tell you what model year MB considers it, and more importantly, when it was born and what colors and equipment it left Stuttgart with (ex: if the engine had high or low compression, etc.)
