just so I can get a good kick in on the dead horse I have something to add
On the address plate given with my car it lists the model as a "300D-T" so it seems as if MB themselves used the "T" for Turbo ID.
On a side note the car was built the first day of April 1982 (might explain a few things.... ) and bought June 11th 1982.
