At 78 as I lose muscle mass it is not pretty. I do remember getting a little overweight once. The wife put me on a rabbit diet. I wondered at the time if it was self serving for her. It did work though.
A reality in north America is we eat even when we are not hungry out of habit. Probably not the smartest thing to do. The convention of three meals a day kind of caters to this.
I have cut back on physical work to some extent. That is a misteak. It tends to keep the body toned longer.

Part of my point with the thread was I am loosing weight and more importantly Fat with out changing my diet or increasing my exercise.
The fact that the Cinnamon is aiding in that shows that I do have Insulin Resistance (not officially diagnosed) or it would be having the loss of fat or weigh. But, yes people are Obese for different reasons. I appear to have found one of the reasons for mine.
The general obesity issue is of course quite extensive as to the reasons for it. There is various theories on it.
I recently listened to a video Ad for some Tea concoction that is supposed to cause weight loss.
The explanation was that people are eating the same things they did 40 years ago with the same bad habits. What the Ad explanation claims is that what has changed is that we have more toxic stuff in our blood stream at a molecular level and that causes Fat accumulation.
In short the claim is that the rise in Obesity all over the world is attributed to the increasingly toxic environment we live in and increased toxic stuff in our Blood the people in the past. (The Ad said that there is actually plastic molecules in your Blood Stream along of course with other stuff that should not be there.)
It is easy to disregard the above as hype to sell a product. But, I read long ago that people who lose weight rapidly suffer discomfort from the toxins released that had been contained Fat. So maybe it is true that the production of Body Fat has something to do with taking toxins out of you Blood and isolating some of them in you Fat tissue.
I have also lost muscle mass due to inactivity in my upper body. Because I walk my legs have good muscle mass. Even at your age you can regain some muscle mass by way of exercise. However, exercise is not desirable in the face of pain evem if exercise is needed.
