Is this the kind of noise that happens just when it's between pulling and coasting? That just usually means there is just a little too much play in it. If it's not too bad and has plenty of the right kind of lubricant it could go for years like that. The alternative is spending bucks to fix it. I don't think any kind of additive except maybe sawdust will damp the sound. Turn up the radio.
