You'd have to be a total die-hard W123 freak to pay $13k for one. That's way overpriced unless it's your wet dream car. As others mentioned, you can get a LOT more car, in EXCELLENT shape, for way less money. Shoot, I'd sell you my white 87 for $10k, it's perfect in & out except it needs a head...

Oh, and btw, on the $2k fixxer-upper: Keep in mind that there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes. Only buy one of those if you plan to drive it into the ground and not spend a dime on maintenance or repair, or it will cost you a fortune. Better to look for something in between, with high miles & low price but full records & well-maintained. They exist but you'll need to travel to get one, probably out of state (western/southern USA if you want rust-free).
