Is there anyone who can walk me through the process of replacing the oil filter cannister that bolts onto the side of a 84 300SD?

1. Do I need to disconnest the oil lines?
2. Are the fragile?
3. Do I need a gasket seal material when applying the new gasket?
4. Any special tools required?

Today is my day off and I was going to try and tackle this today.
