My biggest gripe of the lexus is that the designs change so much, the cars lose a lot fo value, and they look extremely old and outdated after only a few years. for instance, an early 90's lexus looks ugly and outdated compared to the new lexus, but a w124 still looks quite modern, even though the platform is at least 20 years old.
My w124 still looks better than most cars on the road today. And most people, think its a late 90's mercedes, not an early 90's mercedes.
Sure the w124 has some issues, but the driving experience for me is what counts. Overall, besides the AC evaporator, wiring harness (on some w124's), and the head gasket, the w124 is extremely reliable. My car only suffers from the AC evaporator issue, but since having the AC not blow cold is not a big deal to me, it is something that can wait in my book.
On another note, I wouldn't bother buying any lexus, because to me, its just a toyota with a different name. But a benz is still a benz (for the most part...)
It still boils down to personal preference. To me I'd take a 20 year old benz over a brand new lexus, but thats just me.
