There should be a plastic protective cover over that link to stop it rusting.

Also take a look at these two things:

- the metal where the rear subframe mounts bolt into can rust off (check the drivers side front mount of the rear subframe)

- if a front balljoint is loose or a cover is split then change it immediately because of the design the spring pulls the balljoint apart and they do fail
