There are a lot of places that are particularly "sharky:" Barbers Point on Oahu, Channel Islands off California, Cape San Blas in Floriduh.

I learned my lesson about Boogie boarding at Barbers Point.

I got stranded in Moorhead City for a week. I was on an ATF (ocean-going tug), and one of the generators crapped out. The MSC captain wouldn't operate in a non-emergency with just one generator, so into port we went. I had the forethought to have my travel orders state "rental car authorized in ports of call," so I was the only one on the ship with a car. I ended up being the ship's taxi service for a week.

The only military on the ship was the radio room, the embarked EOD team, and a three MN's I was with. The food was awesome. We had to bust our butt for the first three days and the last four days. But, the 14 days in between was mostly dead time. I brought two alarm clocks, one set for breakfast and one set for dinner. I ate until I was tired, and then slept until I was hungry.
