Take, for example, Bravecto, a new flea med which requires a prescription and is administered once every 3 months.
The margin of profit your vet makes on the Bravecto is not significant and certainly not really worth the trouble of ordering it online.
The problem is the actual cost of Bravecto and how it is marketed. The issue is the same for Advantage and other flea meds.
The cost of Bravecto per dose for a Saint Bernard is the same as the cost for a chihuahua. However, the actual amount of medication given to a BIG DOG is 12 times greater than the dose given to the smallest dog.
Ask your vet for the big dog box of Bravecto, a few 1cc syringes and a glass vial with a screw top. Decant the big dog tube into the vial and give your dog the dose appropriate for its size.
See the link below for dosage. A 40-56 kilo dog tube of Bravecto is 5cc and a 2-4.5 kilo dog tube is 0.4cc. That means you could get 12 doses for your dog for the cost of a single dose.
