The 2 regs that have failed did not die of worn out brushes. Something on the solid state part of them crapped out.
The factory size brush is good for 100K miles or better. Longer brushes do not necessarily mean a longer lifespan.

If you're popping the electronics in the regulator, inspect your slip rings. If they're greasy or if they're grooved, they need replacing. They do wear out and when they do, it's regulator roulette until you replace the slip rings or replace the alternator.
