Agree 100%.

It might help if the aforementioned manufacturer didn't call the system 'autopilot' and charge its customers thousands of extra dollars for hardware updates labeled 'full self-driving capabilities'

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people believe we are 99% of the way there with self-driving cars and all we need is another couple of over-the-air software updates and the self driving car will be reality.

Then Tezla releases its 'self-summon' feature where the car as supposed to navigate its way to the user in a parking lot at 2mph. Go on the web and take a look at how well this 'feature' works. If you have a totally empty parking lot it seems to work sometimes and there are quite a few Tezla fan boys showing videos of smart summon working in these environments... well at least sort of working. In a more typical parking lot with other cars, pedestrians, shopping carts ect the Tezla 'feature' drives like a drunken 2 year old child. And of course the Tezla feature won't work on public roads or public parking lots and you've got to be within 50 yards on your smartphone with your finger on a dead-mans button to confirm you're actually watching the whole thing and can shut it down at a moments notice by removing your finger from the button.

But yeah, we're right around the corner from full self driving on real roads in real traffic at 70MPH. How about a dead-mans button on the self-driving feature on the road? Why do they have one for a parking lot where the car has 10X the amount of time to make a decision and not have one for the on-the-road version?
