At 78 as I lose muscle mass it is not pretty. I do remember getting a little overweight once. The wife put me on a rabbit diet. I wondered at the time if it was self serving for her. It did work though.
A reality in north America is we eat even when we are not hungry out of habit. Probably not the smartest thing to do. The convention of three meals a day kind of caters to this.
I have cut back on physical work to some extent. That is a misteak. It tends to keep the body toned longer.

I get that this is an old post - oh well.
I was ga-ga about running the mile in high school. I learned of a famous coach from the 50s/60s named Percy Wells Cerutty from Australia. His two best known athletes were John Landy (2nd sub 4 minute miler, should have been the first instead of that show boat Roger Bannister) and Herb Elliot, winner of the 1500 meters at the Rome Olympics in 1960 and one of the greatest ever.
In one of his books he said "eat only when summoned by the angel of hunger." I don't always do it but I'm aiming that direction.
