You should measure the intake manifold pressure to get an idea of how the turbocharger is working. I think when floored, you should see 9 psig boost, or a little more. If not, it probably isn't working or the wastegate controls are buggered. The turbocharger guts seem fairly standard, at least the rebuild kits cover many models from various manufacturers. But, that is just the shaft bearings and seals. The compressor and exhaust wheels surely vary between sizes. The ones on our M-B engines appear to have a different housing than most since the O-ring for the compressor shell is much too big OD in the generic kits.
