C280 - 1996 - 125K

The head gasket has been leaking for at least 25-35K. The leak is small - i really don't notice a dip in the oil level. My question is should i just keep driving it until it gets worse or go ahead and replace it as a preventative measure to prevent further damage.
My independent mechanic is quoting my about 1K for the repair.
