An EGR valve is not the same of a PCV valve. EGR adds exhaust to the intake air to lower the combustion temperature to lessen nitrogen oxide. PVC draws fumes out of the crankcase into the air input to burn the fumes and keep them from going into the air.

They are both anti polution devices but they work in different ways. The older MB Diesel engines (1985 and earlier) have a pipe going from the valve cover to the intake plenum bit there is no PVC valve that I know of. I'm not familiar with newer engines.
