I consume about 32oz a day, mostly in the morning. I have gone stretches without it but to be honest, coffee is simply delicious. It is like wine -- tons of nuance and variety between various sources, roasts, etc. Commercial coffee shops (starbucks, peets, DD) are pretty bad. One of the better places around here, and which distributes pretty widely now is La Colombe. A lot of indie places buy their beans and grind/brew themselves.

If I sound snobby about coffee it is because I kinda am. I worked with a guy years ago whose wife was a coffee importer (I think for La Colombe but I could be wrong) and he would deliver fresh off the ship beans in the office. The founder of my current company also had a coffee importing business (purely by chance and unrelated) so we would always have great stuff on hand. Fresh ground, french press brew is delicious.
