Nick, yes the pre cats are restrictive, and I have seen many of them fail and become plugged. The problem with removing or gutting any catalyst is the emission control laws. Most muffler shops will not alter factory emission devices becuase of fines they may be hit with if uncle sam busts them.One option might be to get euro down pipes and then install a hi-flow performance cat.
