Based on actual shop experience, I've swapped out about traps before on customer cars and never required or used any special support brackets and I've had no comebacks or exhaust leaks after years of use. Just make sure you use brand new copper nuts when installing the bypass pipe as well as a new metal T3 stainless exhaust gasket. If you try to re-use the old rusted nuts, thats when things can wobble loose and you can potentially get exhaust leaks
So you are saying that the struts I am talking about are not necessary when replacing the trap oxidizer with a bypass pipe? There is nothing special about these struts, they came on all the 1985 California cars. If you have replaced several traps with bypass pipes and not used these, then you must have removed them and not replaced them. And you found that this worked for you? If so, I certainly believe it I just want to confirm that you can remove the struts and not have vibration consequences.

Thanks in advance!
