China makes long range plans. Plus has the political system to engage them. North America seems not to. We as a result are really not doing all that well.

When Japan decided they could now build quality. Most of their merchandise became very expensive. I would not expect less from China. They are already becoming dominate in some things.

You will not find better produced by any other country. Only the prices remain low. Until they have established dominance in enough fields. Enjoy it while it lasts. At anytime China can adjust their currency.

As an example. I serviced the first early color televisions built in North America. They were unreliable and crude to what we buy today. They cost half of what a new car cost.

Japan made them far more reliable. Most flat screen televisions and computer components are made in China today. Flat screen televisons are about 1/30 of what a new car costs today. Plus vastly superior. At some point this is going to change. They are substidising our cost of living currently to some extent.

I mentioned some years back on the site. Some electronic items I was importing direct from China were world class. As was the manufacturing process used to make them. Yet I was paying almost nothing for them. I was unable to figure out how they could do this?

The cost to set up that ability to manufacture had to be massive. Until I found out the same company made military electronics for their armed forces. By manufacturing some items for the commercial market. Helped spread the costs plus they could develop another area of expertise.

Russia has resumed electronic production to some extent. They seem to be paying more attention to the balance of trade issues that north America is.

The miniturization of electronic components was almost unbelievable at the time as well. Today China does not allow export of some of their technology.

The first time I experienced this. I was buying some of their special epoxy based glues from their aerospace industry. Last time I ordered was informed export of the glue was no longer allowed. It was the best glue I have ever used. Cheap at the time as well.
