When the plastic ball ends on my 124 broke off I bought aluminum rod and the metal ball ends and made them. You'll have to buy dies and left handed nuts if you want them to be turn buckles but I was able to manage just making mine all right handed. I think I bought 4mm rod, but I'll look it up if you want to go this route.
