What kind of stupid thing are we talking about? I think there motivation will be different depending upon what stupid thing we are talking about.

Stupid is also subjective. The first TV I got on my own was a 42" Sony rear projection. I think it was about $1200 back in the mid 90's. I was single, could afford it and I wanted it. One could easily argue that it was stupid. The money could have been saved for something more important.

Dated some women, who in hind sight, were not good for me. They helped me grow and it gave me experience to figure out what I did want.

Things can be both stupid and not stupid....perhaps.
