auto box has no kickdown

Hi
I put an automatic transmission in my manual w126, which started life as a 560 until someone converted it to a diesel, OM606.

The gearbox was taken from a W140 american model. All i know is that it is a five speed.

The operation went well and the car drives ok, except for the fact when i approach hills and the car is in 5th gear. I have to manually drop the shifter down to "3" and then get the umph.

Of course,im pretty sure i don't have the correct automatic shifter, as it should be P-R-N-4-3-2 right?

But more importantly, there is a "linkeage" which my mecanic could not find which he says, when fitted, will give me the kickdown from the accelerator.

If anyone can help me with a picture or a link, so i can start the search of junkyards, i'd be very grateful.

And what should be the correct shifter? Can i fit another one from the top without taking out the entire transmission?

thanks for your patience and advice.

Best
