Fair enough

My truck, unfortunately, was an inheritance from one of my favorite people in the world. Before it, I had an '84 E-350 van (I sold that to get the 300D), also with the same 6.9l diesel. I had almost no problems with the van whatsoever; if I weren't so attached to the truck, I'd have kept the van. I don't pay attention to the gas trucks, but in all honesty, I'm more of an anti-GM guy than a straight Ford guy; if I were to buy a new truck, it'd actually be a Dodge. I love that Cummins B-series. The Ford IDI's ('83 to '94 6.9l and 7.3l pre-Powerstroke) are nice engines (a bit lacking in the power department, though), but the new Powerstrokes are too electronically-controlled for my tastes (to be fair, I have that same complaint about the new common-rail Cummins).

My two biggest beefs with GM are the independent front axles and the Duramax (the 6.5l doesn't even count, no offense RT). GM had an excellent opportunity to replace the 6.5l with a quality heavy duty diesel, and instead they "help" Isuzu built an aluminum-head (just because one hasn't failed yet doesn't mean that they won't) high-revving unit (high-revving diesels are okay in cars, but IMHO not in pickup trucks). Unfortunately, for the last 20 years or so (old GM's aren't bad), it's been all about cost-cutting, and GM's even admitted to this and plans to put more of an emphasis on quality, according to a news article that I read (and, actualy, posted on here a week or two ago).

It'll be interesting to see how GM turns out in the next 10 years or so...
