Interesting. Many years ago when I was a kid I recall seeing a short sci-fi story on Television. Can't remember if it was Twilight Zone or not but I think not, about a scientist type of individual mucking about in his laboratory with audio equipment who started to get high frequency sounds shooting thru his headphones. Like high pitched shrieks starting abruptly and slowly decreasing to nothting every few seconds. Went on intermittantly for a couple of minutes then stopped.

This occurred for some time and he thought he was losing it until he noticed his neighbor across the way cutting plants in her front yard which was exactly in sync with each screech. As she cut the stem - screech etc.

Eventually he was taken away in a white coat after running around telling everybody to stop pruning plants as they can feel pain.

Maybe this is literally a case of life imitating art.
