As I recall reading, in the Mcd affair, the restaurant was aware of the excessive heat of the coffee. Having said that, don't place a hot liquid in a styrofoam cup between your legs. I always have a spill proof container in my car for stuff like that. Perhaps a penalty was inorder but at best a $100k IMO.

I have not read much about this case but the fact that the food is fried in hot grease is not a family secret. Kids drop things. Either don't eat in the car or accept.the consequences. Put a freaking napkin in your lap. Barring willful negligence from McD, this should have been kicked to the curb

I agree with Savas that we are a overly litigious society and the courts are helping enable this.
