That was the range I was thinking. I’m not sure I could’ve jumped that high with that kind of jump even in my prime. During the ‘76 Olympics a few buddies and I put together a high jump pit in the backyard using 4 or 5 mattresses. The Fosbury flop is a great jumping style, but no way in hell could you do it in a sand pit, you would break your neck. But the mattresses were good enough. I’m 6’0” and in one afternoon’s practice. I got up to a jump of 5’0”.

I was close to being able to dunk a basketball at that time. I could jump up and grab the rim with a closed fist, but you need to be a few inches higher than that for an actual stuff. Not trying for peabrained boasting, just saying I was not a complete slouch in jumping and I’m not sure I could’ve made that jump the way she did.

The hobbyhorse event seems a bit goofy, but I see now that it is one heck of a work out for these young ladies. Kudos.
