I’ve had some horror story rides on greyhound. Once I was hopping freights from Washington State down to the Mexico border so I could take a bus in Mexico to meet a friend of mine while he was still in Mazatlan. I had limited time and budget. The train I was on stopped outside of LA - Oxnard. I had to hitchhike through LA. Oh boy. I was having crappy luck, I did some quick phone calling, turns out I could catch a greyhound to Yuma, AZ and be there at 4 or 5 in the morning, and catching a freight from Yuma to Tucson would be a piece of cake.
I got to the bus on time. Hoping to catch some sleep, and behind me was sitting some loudmouth thug, who was witty enough to get all the losers on board into a laughing party good enough, with a little bit of libation present, to last all night.
At one point the bus driver came on the intercom, said there were families with children trying to get some sleep, could they keep it down. It was quiet for about 30 seconds until the thug guy said “what’s he gonna do, he’s just the driver?” They all laughed and started back up. The guy was fat, all mouth, no ass - geez I wanted to kick his ass. Would’ve been a disaster.
But I landed on my feet, I caught a freight in Yuma and made it to Mazatlan on time.
