Actually I noticed this whole problem with the gauge dropping to zero under little or no engine load on a drive up to Denver and back earlier this week. The E300D ran fine up and back so I guess I didn't blow the engine or anything.

What is a good way to troubleshoot the oil pump?

Any other ideas?
