I always use 2x-3x redundant stands and lifts when i get under my car. The only time I skip that is when I'm lazy on the oil change and drive the front end of the car overhanging the curb and the street and just lay on the street to reach in to loosen the drain plug.

This technique is used when the garage and driveway is being used by the truck and motorcycle undergoing other projects.
