By the way, for the benefit of other members, I disconnected the kickdown switch, just in case it was sticking and preventing me from shifting up.

By the way, the transmission (auto) starts from 1st gear coz the last time I drove it was in S mode.

Even after switching back to E mode, the car still starts from 1st gear so it definitely looks like a problem in the tranny itself.
