Sway bar links...as in the sway bar bushings or is that something else?

As far as the tapping noise....I don't think it is a lifter. The sounds does not get louder when I open the door...which I think it would if it was coming from the engine. Also, I hear nothing unusual when standing over the running engine. It's just kinda hard to describe this noise. It's not a tick, like a lifter. Use one of your knuckles and tap it against a table....that's pretty close to what it sounds like. Probably at a rate of maybe 2 taps per second. And nothing that I really do changes the noise. Rolling, standing still, braking...so on. This is a tough one!
