The differences between male and female circumcisions are that female circumcisions are done when the girl is around 10- 12 years old and stop a woman from experiencing sexual pleasure. While male circumcisions are said to diminish sexual pleasure, they are not as radical as female circumcisions.
It is easy to see how female circumcision (female genital mutilation is the preferred term now) is done to control a woman's sexual desire for someone other than her husband/owner.
