I think the BMW will be too sporty. The mercedes should have a supple ride, nice quiet cabin, and should drive very nicely.

I've always been a mercedes person, my friend just got a 2001 330CI, nice looking car, but when driving it I feel it lacks something, but I cant describe it.

The previous 3 series (E36 chassis)was a better car than the newer one (E46 chassis) IMHO. but if going new, the mercedes will have a higher resale value after the 10 years than the bmw will.
