Exclamation CLICKING Noise in 300E Manual Transmission

'86 300E - Manual Transmission

I am not sure whether it was a coincident but yesterday after having the tires changed at the shop I noticed a ticking/clicking noise in my transmission box. I am afraid that the improper shifting (if at all possible) of the careless shop staff when he was rolling the car in might have caused this.

The noise is coming from the Transmission box while the engine is idling. However it goes away when the clutch is depressed. Could it be that the clutch fork does not get retracted fully or maybe a broken spring?

Is this a DIY job? Should I change the pressure plate, clutch plate or both?

Any suggegstion is appriciated.

I checked the fluid level and it was OK. There is some type of ATF in there now but tomorrow I will drain it and fill it with Mobil One 10W30 as per Larry Bible's recommendation.

Thanks.
