I think there's a sticker in the glove box stating to have the airbag replaced at a certain time. If you went back in 1997, you'd have gotten a 5 year extension.

I don't know how airbags work. I don't know what exactly degrades over time. I don't know what kind of POST the SRS system does. Dang, I'm pretty dumb
