The 60x engines are NOT junk. In fact, they are probably one of the best MB diesels built, surpassed by only the 616 and 617 engines!

The reason MB had so many problems with the heads was a design defect. But, Mercedes redesigned the heads 3-TIMES, and now they are a very strong engine. Not to mention the removal of the trap that MB did for FREE,

I have seen 602 engines in 300D 2.5 turbos go out of time very often. It seems to be common in those cars,

The 350 engines were a disaster, but MB rebuilt those engines, after failue, with stronger, more reinforced connecting rods,

The OM606 is nice too, but due to MB for scheduleing 10K mile service itervals(via FSS), they are starting to develop noises in the bottom-end from lack of maintenence.
