This kind of issue came up years ago with people complaining about not being able to back up computer software. The courts had ruled then that people had the right to make personal copies for private use. Having the master copies of all of your MP3's should fall into this category. I've also been using Imesh and the like to "convert" old magnetic and record media to electronic means. I have the source material for over 95% of my stuff, and only don't have masters for what I cannot find in "print."
If the RIAA losers come knocking on my door, I'll simply point to my STACKS of CD's and albums, and then tell them to pound sand. So long as you own the music, you have the right do do with it as you wish, so long as you are not making copies to sell or distribute.
Too bad that these morons will never get a clue and realize that they are only further alienating the public from buying music. Instead, they need to get with the times and start selling music online in downloadable form at deep discounts due to the lack of packaging involved.
