We once owned a 380SEL that had been converted to diesel (617 motor). We bought it that way, so I can't tell you too much about the process, except to say, yep, it can be done. They had to swap the dash, to get the glow plug light... the gas tank and lines of course... they left the gas differential, but that made the speedometer out by quite a bit. I think it is quite involved, esp the electrical, but these guys that did ours had done this to several cars, so I guess they felt it was worth it.
