psfred,

I know the feeling since I had the same experience today. I'm only 17 years old (stupid kid, yeah ) and I own a nice old mittelblau 1970 280SEL. I was on interstate 70 this afternoon heading over to the college where I attend classes in the afternoon and I ended up with some of those teenagers (perhaps "stoners" would be more appropriate in this case) trying to pass me on the right with a '95 Ford Thunderbird. I ended up flooring the old Benz and sticking then behind a semi. All in good fun of course. Then they started tailgaiting me, so I again kicked the speed up a little bit. I ended up at 90 mph before they decided to give up. Looking at my 140 mph speedometer, it is so nice to know that the car will actually go that fast and a rev-limiter won't kick in.

In all seriousness, the ones that really piss me off are the middle aged adults driving SUV's with a cell phone stuck up their ears. Those are the kind that I much prefer to blow away. Someone with a classic car or an MB in general will get a little respect.

Really, I love driving a huge old Benz that weighs 2 tons rather than a plastic "egg-car." I love the VW commercial "pods unite." It is so comforting not to be driving something that could be described as a pod, even with the price of the fuel I burn (94 octane Sonoco mixed 20% with 100LL AvGas).
