Larry and J,
Thank you for your replys. The alternator bearings are doubtful as a probable cause. The noise appears to be coming from higher up, near pully for fan behind radiator fans. The alternator doesn't make any noises whatsoever, the belt just appears to "swoosh" I heard a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am with the same problem. I think the Canadian climate is one cause, the conditions up here are constantly damp and humid all winter. The belt just seems to be noisy. I have seen a bad alternator in a Dodge Omni once before in shop class in high school, the bearings on that alternator squeeked like crazy. The sound of the bad alternator was similar to a power steering pump struggling with no or low fluid "shrieking"
MY PROBLEM IS A PERSISTANT "SWOOSHING"
ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY
Please anyone!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!
ANYONE WITH SOME IDEAS PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU
MIKE MCKINNEY
