MB used the OM616 72BHP engine for their Tempo Traveler series vehicles and it is still being manufactured by their subsidiary Bajaj-Tempo here in India. There is virtualy no difference between the 65BHP and 72BHP OM-616 except for the fuel pump and callibration. The revised fuel pump gives 1000 rpm more than the original OM-616's 4200rpm. The torque figure is up from the original engine. The existing OM 616 can be easily modified by using the newer pump. All other parts in the engine including the cam is the same. I have done this mod on two 240D with great results but to take the maximum benefit of the increased rpm range you need the close ratio 5 speed tranny instead of the standard 4 speed.
